What does a Paper Making Workshop involve?

A group papermaking workshop is a great sustainable activity that invites your team to learn an ancient craft using modern, eco-friendly practices. It's a fantastic experience for a group, combining a tactile process with a strong sense of community and creativity.

The workshop begins with an introduction to the process and the materials, which in this case, focuses on recycling. You'll learn how pre-consumed paper is transformed into pulp, which involves breaking down the paper fibres in water to create a slurry.

Next, you'll be introduced to the star of the show: the mould and deckle. This is a traditional two-part tool, a screen (mould) and a frame (deckle), used to form each individual sheet of paper. The instructor will demonstrate the rhythmic process of dipping the mould and deckle into the vat of pulp, lifting it out, and shaking it gently to interlock the fibres and form a sheet. You'll then get to try this satisfying process yourself, making sheets to your desired thickness and adding decorative elements like dried flowers or natural pigments to your paper.

As the paper needs time to dry and fully harden, you won't be able to use your paper right away. You will receive the paper after 1-2 days, allowing it to fully cure and ensuring it's durable and ready for your next creative project.
